Chapter 25 Screen Flow

1. To insert models, images, and text use the File>Insert menu command.

2. The easiest way to get sketch up files into layout is by choosing File>Sent to layout in sketch up.

3. Choose Edit>Select all to quickly select all objects on the current page. Choosing Edit>Select None does the opposite.

4. The Edit>Duplicate command also works and places the duplicated object offset from its original.

5. These tools use the same inference points that sketchup does. all of these tools can be found in the main toolbar and in the tools menu.

6. The styles for any shapes created with the various tools are set using the shape style panel in the tray. text can be inserted into the document by choosing file>insert, but text can also be added to the pages using the text and label tools.

Chapter 24 Screen Flow

1. The inter face elements are identical to those found in sketch up including a title bar, menus, toolbars, and a status bar.

2. The status bar also includes a measurements toolbar field and a drop down list for selection a zoom amount. Lay out lets you combine multiple pieces of content together into a presentation. lay out is the platform for bringing it all together.

3. You can configure the document using the document setup dialog box, choose File>Document setup to open this dialog box.

4. Within the file menu are three commands for printing the current document: page setup, print preview, and print.

5. You can easily add pages by using the pages menu or the pages panel. to work with the view you can use the navigation tools: pan, zoom, zoom in, zoom out, actual size, zoom to fit, and full screen.
you can access the customization features by choosing view>toolbars>customize. the customize command can also be accessed by clicking the toolbar options button located at the right end of the main toolbar.

6. Choose help>layout help to open the help files in a web browser.

Chapter 23 Screen Flow

1. To access the shadow settings choose window>shadows to open the shadow settings dialog box.

2. Shadows can be enabled and disabled by choosing View>Shadows.

3. Using the time slider, you can change the time for the shadow. the center of the slider represents noon and either end is sunrise and sunset.

4. The light slider is used to brighten or darken the illuminated surfaces in the model. the dark slider is used to change how dark the shadows appear.

5. Using the entity info dialog box you can set an object so it doesn’t cast any shadows. if disabled shadows that are cast onto an object aren’t displayed.

Chapter 22 Screen Flow

1. The fog effect is useful for casting a light or heavy fog over the entire drawing. using fog in this manner can be used to slowly fade out a current drawing.

2. On the distance slider in the fog panel you will find two markers. the left marker is the near fog marker. it marks where the fog starts and is measured relative to the camera. you can change the fog color by deselecting the use background color option and clicking on the color swatch.

3. To make the section plane appear choose tools>section plane. after adding the plane it can be selected and manipulated. when selected, the transform tools can be used to move the section plane. you can also see a different section of an object by moving the object through the section plane.

4. To reverse these arrows and change the side of the section that is visible, simply right-click on the section plane border and select the reverse option from the pop up menu.

5. The section slice can be moved and viewed independent of the section, you can also align the view to be perpendicular to the current section using the right click align view menu command.

6. To export a section slice choose file>export>section slice. section slices can be saved in either the DWG or DXF file formats.

Chapter 21 Screen Flow

1. The style builder interface is similar to the other sketch up applications that use various menus, panels, and windows.

2. The strokes panel shows a collection of sample strokes loaded from a template. these template files are image files that hold the various strokes.

3. Clicking the settings tab opens several settings that help to define the new style. using these fields, you can give the style a name.

4. When a new set of stroke samples is loaded into the stroke sample panel, the new strokes are automatically applied to the current style, but you can selectively choose which strokes are used by clicking and dragging strokes from the left panel to the top panel.

5. The style preview pane provides a quick look at the current style. the default house model can be switched out for a different model by choosing Preview>Change Model.

6. To set the preferences all you need to do is choose edit>Preferences to display this dialog box.

Chapter 20 Screen Flow

all styles within the styles browser are divided into categories separated into folders. the styles in the current category are displayed as thumbnails.

1. When a style thumbnail is selected, its preview is displayed at the top of the browser along with its name and a description, if it has one.

2. The edit pane consists of five panes that are located right under the edit tab. each of these panes lets you access a different set of style settings including edge, face, background, watermark, and modeling.

3. You can change the background color by selecting the display edges option where all the model edges are displayed.

4. To add a textured image as an overlay watermark to give the drawing area the look as if it were drawn on a textured paper. you can access this in the paper watermark folder in the styles browser.

5. To mix different styles you can use the mix pane to combine different style definitions. to add a set of definitions from the style displayed in the lower pane, simply click and drag the desired style onto the type of settings that you want to mix into the current style.

Chapter 19 Screen Flow

1. The material browser is opened by choosing window>materials. you can also open the material browser by selecting the paint brush tool.

2. The paint bucket tool lets you apply material that you select in the material browser to object faces in the current scene. to use this tool choose tools>paint bucket or press (B)

3. To select the color simply click or drag within the color wheel to select the color you want and then drag the Brightness slider to adjust the color’s brightness. to use a texture appear as part of the current material, select the use texture image option from the create material dialog box. the opacity slider is use to set the material’s opacity or transparency.

4. To use the position texture tool click on the face that has a textured material applied to it and choosing texture>position.

Chapter 18 Screen Flow

1. The scenes manager allows you to create and manage all the defined scenes. choose window>scenes to open the scenes manager

2. To create a new scene, click the add scene button at the top of the scenes dialog box.

3. Camera location, hidden geometry, visible layers, active section planes, drawing styles, shadow settings, and axes location.

4. When switching between scenes the camera is animated moving between the current scene to the selected scene.

5. To export the scene animation to an external file by choosing file>export>animation.

Chapter 18 Screen Flow

Chapter 17 Screen Flow

1. You can access the layers manager from the windows menu. all projects include a layer 0 by default.

2. To create a new layer simply click the add layers dialog box. to delete a layer you can click on the delete layer button

3. You can quickly hide a specific layer using the visible check box. ’

4. By choosing color by layer in the details pop-up menu, every object is colored based on its layer color.

5. By choosing window entity info you can use the layer drop-down list to change the layer assignment for the selected enity.
